Retargeting? Yes please.

July 19, 2010 by Eric Friedman

While browsing the web today I was hit by a banner ad powered by Criteo for Zappos.  They are using my previous browsing history to target Zappos products I may be interested in.  This technology, called retargeting, has been around for a while but I have never been presented with a link at the bottom …

Paid Search FTW

April 5, 2010 by Eric Friedman

Image by naughty architect via Flickr Over the weekend I was out on Long Island and in need of a home service provider, specifically an exterminator. I setup an appointment and quickly realized my problem was “wildlife” and not “vermin” and needed a new provider. I was told to check the “phone book” and look …

My friend Dave recently shared a NYTimes article documenting many storefronts that are renting out their windows for ads. Since the NYTimes requires …

March 25, 2009 by Eric Friedman

Image via CrunchBase Most people think that a cookie is a delicious treat – not a file on your computer that tracks where you have been, what you are doing, and other attributes about you. Behavior is what you do – not something quantified in a profile. That is why with the recent announcement by …

Products showing up in Google Search ads

February 3, 2009 by Eric Friedman

I just noticed a drop down box near a Google SEM ad tonight that I have not seen before. It could be an old feature, but I have not seen it in the wild. I did some more searches and found the below screen shot showing NewEgg displaying multiple items that technically match my query: …

Pass on the savings – advertising on pizza boxes

October 17, 2008 by Eric Friedman

Home Depot is now advertising on pizza boxes in NYC. Where are the savings for the customer? I bet that they are not only paying for the boxes but also paying a CPM (PPM?) for the boxes sold or total used. Definitely an interesting thing to see and I wonder where else this is happening.
