Although I have never done a review at Marketing.fm, I wanted to start sharing great books, websites, and other products and services I come across that I feel would benefit interactive marketers – so here goes:
I recently finished reading Guy Kawasaki’s The Art of the Start. It was one of the best entrepreneurship books I have read in a long time – and believe me, I have read a lot of them.
I discovered Guy through his blog over at http://blog.guykawasaki.com/ where he writes top 10 lists on startup advice and overall good business practices. His blog writings are well written, informative, and very entertaining.
Awhile back I came across an entry where a reader had “complained” that Guy was simply cutpasting excerpts from his books and re-packaging them into blog entries. His response was basically “your right, only now I have the insight and knowledge to update and refine what I wrote before, while providing it for free!” – This was enough to get me to go out and buy The Art of the Start.
For anyone that is thinking about starting a business: you need to read this book.
For anyone that is working within a startup business: you need to read this book.
I believe that it contains some very helpful advice for someone that is thinking about quitting their job to start a company, about to join a startup, or even going to work for a small to medium sized business that is not a typical huge corporation.
Kawasaki gives insightful advice and anecdotes that prove his theories and points well, while remaining a quick read. I bookmarked many of the pages, and will continue to consult the book in the future. I find that the best business books are written in a clean format that contain easy to digest information. The experience from Garage Ventures and the quantity of investments and business deals make Guy Kawasaki veteran investor and a great author.
If you mind isnt made up yet then this video should seal the deal:
