Now this is a good idea to get customers. Joyent is giving free hosting for Facebook developers away so that they can have a place to cultivate and develop their applications.

The rules to qualify are really not that hard either considering how easy it is to get people to subscribe to your application:

All that we ask is that your Facebook application be ‘active and in use’. Any Facebook application sitting on a Joyent Accelerator that is dormant for more than 60 days will be re-claimed (we will notify you beforehand so you may pull down your code before we scrub the server).

Considering the cheapest paid plan is $15month for the regular plans this seems like a good deal. I say kudos to Joyent for trying to recruit developers.

The nice thing here is that chances are developers who may not have started a project or did not know where to test out their application now have a home. Joyent is also making a smart move getting some of the most cutting edge developers on one platform. What do you think will happen when an application takes off and Joyent is there to scale and meet demand? (where possible) Plus they are getting bloggers to talk about their platform and drive traffic to their site.

I recently setup and developed a marketing.fm facebook application which is available here. With some serious help from widgetbox and their create your own facebook application maker it was easy to setup. It is simply another publication of this blogs feed in a cool flash widget.

Hat tip to David Berkowitz and Charlie O’Donnell for this one.

I setup a Marketing.fm widget awhile back and basically forgot about it as it did not make much sense to put it in my blog sidebar. After checking the stats I am impressed that it made its way out onto the web. It turns out our marketing widget has 57 subscribers. We have received about 500 hits this month from the widget – most coming from this media 2.0 blog. (blog not in English)

If you are interested in checking out the marketing facebook app click here. I also think its great that I snagged the name “marketing” for my application back when registration first opened up for all Facebook developers.
