ABD, Always Be Deploying

The famous scene in Glengary Glen Ross has Alec Baldwin directing his team to “ABC” or “Always Be Closing.” Its an epic speech and I have included it below for context.

I modified this mantra slightly for tech companies: ABD always be deploying.

One of the most important things a company can do is ship code.

It may be feature driven, backend development, ops work, or database migration – ABD.

Being privy to a number of early stage tech companies I have seen this advice play out and the ones that ship code end up in a better place faster.

This is not to say it’s the only way to be successful, but it helps.

    This reminds me of Seth Godin’s advice to always ship, and while it’s something I sometimes struggle with a few days a month, I know it’s true from the instances where I just follow this advice! Thanks for sharing that scene Eric. Great movie.
