One of my favorite graphics to use from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy is Don’t Panic.

Many people are talking about reactions to the markets and what it means to venture capital, but remember don’t panic.
This reminds me of Seth Godin’s The Dip because its essentially a little gut check for everyone to assess what they are doing and take a look at the peak (or valley) they are in. What better time or catalyst (read: excuse) to get started on that special project or idea that you have had no reason to in the past.
People always talk about job safety and security as reasons why they are not doing what they love. I hope that some people look back on this time as the kick in the pants they needed to get working on a small project.
Throughout my life I have done small consulting projects for family and friends, whether it be setting up blogs, “getting them online”, or any other web related project. I have noticed recently that the questions have started to trickle back in and people are interested in trying something new that they maybe were holding off on for awhile. I am the hub of this interest and no one of course knows others are doing the same – but I hope this post (for those overlapping people that read it) will recognize that what they are doing is good and continue down the path.
I think innovation is the opposite of safety.
