The Inside Adwords blog recently adjusted how they look at and calculate the quality score for certain types of landing pages. They also specifically spell out what types of pages will be penalized:
Data collection sites that offer free gifts, subscription services etc., in order to collect private information
Arbitrage sites that are designed for the sole purpose of showing ads
Malware sites that knowingly or unknowingly install software on a visitor’s computer
Not that this should be any surprise but it is a significant change in approach from before.
Lastly, you may recall past Inside AdWords blog notices alerting advertisers about upcoming landing page quality updates. Since our systems frequently visit landing pages and update Quality Scores on a regular basis, we will no longer post advance notice of upcoming updates.
This is a great way to combat the “made for Adsense” sites that exist and hopefully cut down on the automated spam pages generated because of them. I know that there are a few pages which strip content from Marketing.fm and run the articles against Adsense only pages – despite my efforts to thwart them. Hopefully this will help combat this practice for this blog and others.
